Tutoring Services
Who …
Hi, I'm Saxon — a registered architect based in Hobart. I hold a Masters of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from UTAS, where I've also tutored KDA101 (Introduction to Sustainable Design for Houses). Alongside this, I've mentored student teams to second- and third-place finishes in the national AIA Super Studio design competition — so I know how to help you turn ideas into work that genuinely stands out. Since graduating in 2013 I've worked across architecture, interior design, graphic design and planning, and I'm now director of Saxon Hall Architecture and Align Architecture & Interiors, specialising in high-performance buildings, passive house design and early contractor involvement across residential, multi-residential, tourism, educational, public, master planning and heritage projects throughout Tasmania. My projects have twice won the People's Choice award at the Tasmanian Architecture Awards (Knights Rest in 2022 and the We Ponder House in 2024) and have been featured in Dezeen, Dwell, The Design Files, Green Magazine and Australian Design Review.
Style & Availability ….
My teaching style is practical and problem-solving-led. I have a strong interest in energy-efficient, climate-responsive design adapted to our landscape and place — but above all I want to pass on the fun and beauty of architecture, no matter how small the project. I'm just as interested in the why behind a design decision as the creative result, so I focus on helping you think like a designer: breaking briefs down, working through the logic, and building real confidence rather than just getting the assignment done. I adapt each session to where you're at, and no question is too basic.
I can help architecture and design students at high school or university level — design studio and concept development, portfolio work, software (e.g. CAD/modelling/Adobe), drawing and documentation, high-performance and climate-responsive design principles, and assignment or exam prep.
I'm available weeknights, Monday to Friday from 7–10pm — online via Google Meet (servicing students Australia-wide) or in person at my office in the Hobart CBD.
Tutoring Fees & Structure …
Private mentorship is tailored to fit your budget, whether you are looking for dedicated one-on-one guidance or want to learn alongside classmates. Individual sessions are available at a flat rate of $70 per hour. If you prefer to study in a small group with peers from your same year level, discounted group rates are offered to keep expert feedback highly affordable: sessions for two people are structured at $100–$110 per hour ($50–$55 per student), and groups of three are $120–$135 per hour ($40–$45 per student). To ensure seamless sessions, group bookings are billed as a single flat fee per hour and require all members to be tackling the same studio level or project brief.
