The We Ponder Home is a new build at Sorell, Tasmania, a 20-minute drive from Hobart — exemplary residential architecture from a collaboration between Align Architecture and Saxon Hall Architecture, with interiors by Rose Kiselev of We Ponder.
The home is a masterclass in mid-century modern Tasmanian design: a timeless aesthetic with contemporary comfort. It exemplifies sustainable design, using passive-solar principles and locally sourced raw-sawn Tasmanian oak inside and out, chosen for its impressively low embodied energy.
Key features include a custom-designed sunken lounge, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, and strategically framed views of rolling hills and a landmark oak tree. It is a study in how a considered architect and interior designer can deliver a high-quality, eco-friendly home efficiently.
Remarkably, the build was completed within 10% of the original budget — the product of close collaboration between architect, interior designer and builder from the first sketch onward.
