The process · Early Contractor Involvement

"The people who design it and the people who build it, in the same room from the start."

I work differently to most architects. Through Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), a trusted builder joins the project from day one — before pen hits paper. Architect, builder and client collaborate as one team from the first idea to the final handover, with a negotiated contract instead of a competitive tender. It's a genuinely transparent process, well suited to building in Tasmania today.

Day one

The builder joins first

Before pen hits paper, a trusted builder is at the table — buildability, cost and sequence shape the design from the very first sketch.

One team

Architect · builder · client

Three voices, one conversation — from first idea to final handover, no relay of assumptions, no surprises at pricing.

The contract

Negotiated, not tendered

A negotiated contract in place of a competitive tender — open costs, shared trust, and a process suited to building in Tasmania today.

★★★★★

"Saxon created a beautiful concept for the overall architecture of our home that we absolutely love. He is very professional and took on board all of our needs and wants."
Client — The We Ponder Home, Tasmania

★★★★★

"As a relatively inexperienced owner builder, I asked a lot of Saxon throughout the process. The number of sketches and texts back and forth as I learned to build must have been in the hundreds!"
Rob, owner-builder — Knights Rest, People's Choice 2022

★★★★★

"His understanding of the client, builder, architect relationship and the importance of this collaboration really early on ensures that projects are managed and completed with excellent outcomes."
